My goal is to run a marathon under 4 hours but the VLM is probably not the best marathon to tackle for a PB as I always manage to clock up closer to 27 miles than 26.2. In reality, I'll be happy with a time of 4:15ish.
At the moment I am struggling speed wise; I sustained annoying foot and ankle injuries (during my last episode of training for two back to back marathons) and they still plague me from time to time hence I'm reluctant at the moment to do any interval training.
I'm thinking I'm going to concentrate on maintaining base fitness - I can run 13 miles reasonably comfortably which, hopefully, will make the long runs a bit easier when I start properly training after Christmas - should be able to increase them quite quickly to 15, 17, 18 and 20/22 - she says ;D We'll see!
As for getting faster again - I'll just have to hope I can get back to previous form - if not I'll obviously have to revise my marathon goal.
Not looking forward to running in the dark after work..

Sounds like a plan Jaynee. Look forward to hearing how you get on. Running in the dark's a pain isn't it - having said that I'm looking forwards to doing some slightly different routes and at least we won't be troubled by overheating! Best of luck!

10 miles yesterday - was very windy and cold but time wise was only a couple of minutes slower than what I averaged last year so quite pleased about that.

Ohh do you mind if I chip in now and again on this thread as I think I'm doing VLM again and I'm loads slower too and also have an injury so we can limp along together.

Oh, Lisa I so hope you do the VLM. It will be cool to have a shibby friend to compare notes with... and of course moan and cry with! Plus, we get to meet again at the expo Feel free to chip in with this thread.

13.1 miles done yesterday - couldn't see my garmin as it was so cold I had my sleeves pulled over my hands! Could have kicked myself when I finished 2:05:03 - if I'd known I was that close I'd have pushed for under 2 hours! Still, it's done and I felt ok.

Well done Jaynee! I know what you mean about just missing out on the time, but then again if you had pushed yourself it might have taken a lot more out of you. At least now you'll hopefully be raring to go for your next one.
