As per the title I'm not sure how often I'll be updating this - probably just as and when I have time and/or anything major or interesting to report (which probably won't be very often! : . No real goals or races lined up at the moment - just (as always) trying to regain lost speed. I've also been experimenting with barefoot running and improving technique which does seem to paying off rather well. Fingers crossed it will continue. I'll kick off with last night's run. 5.87 miles running home along the Camel Trail ( the last time I'll be able to do that this year due to the clocks changing at the weekend ) Its almost entirely flat apart from a short stretch of uphill to my house at the end so I normally try and do some sort of speedwork. Last nights effort was 6 x 3 mins fast 2 recovery. Overall time was 55 mins 40 which is jolly fast for me. I'm happy with anything under an hour and, very happy with anything under 58 minutes and over the moon with anything under 56. I shall award myself two smiley faces.

Well done, Jeanette! I know what you mean about the clocks going back. I'm going to have to change my routes for after work runs. Usually end up looping the loop which always seems so much longer. The long runs I'll do at the weekend so at least I'll get some running in the daylight. Luckily, when marathon training gets going the nights start to draw out again. Roll on spring!

I need to find a race quick before I go off the boil! I did what was supposed to be my LSR yesterday but think I forgot the S! 9.78 miles done around Bodmin including some fairly major hills - I felt as though I was going maybe a bit quicker than normal - the person I was running with commented that I seemed to be going quite well - but effortwise it didn't feel too bad at all. Amazed to discover at the end my average pace was 9.21 - for me that's pretty darn nippy - in fact its quicker than I usually go in my so called faster runs in the week. Fingers crossed touch wood everything seems to be going right for a change! Edit: just looked back and its the quickest pace I've done in training (i.e ignoring races) all year! (Sorry if it seems like I'm boasting but I don't get the chance to do it that often! ;D )

First hill session (for this winter) done this morning. 3 x reps on a gentlish hill - more an upward slope really - approx 45 seconds each and then 3 more on a much more steep hill - average about 38 seconds each. (I'm easing myself into this gradually.) Not going too badly but I do sometimes feel as though I need to move up a gear but can't quite get there. Hopefully this will improve...

Well done Jeanette. I haven't done a hill session in a very long time, must stop avoiding them!

I haven't done a hill session either - thing is it's a 20 minute drive to get to the hills, round my way. I really must get out there soon. Well done, Jeanette!

Its actually easier for me to do hills than not. The town centre is very small and surrounded by them so, in the in winter, unless I want to keep running round and round in circles I soon hit a hill of one sort or another!

Just a quick update. A lovely long slow run done early last Sunday in Reading including a gorgeous stretch along the river. It was like a Christmas card - all misty and frosty with the sun coming up. It was the longest I've done so far in my barefoot shoes at just under 10 miles (I was aiming at 8 but got a bit lost!). No problems and not too shabby a pace so quite happy with that. (Back to normal this week trudging around Wadebridge in the dark!)

I have discovered a new hill! (When I say discovered I just mean tried it on a hill session - not disovered in the sense that Christopher Columbus discovered America.) I did three reps on the 'upward slope' type hill mentioned in one of my posts above then three of the new one (steeper - and definitely a proper hill)- its just the right distance away for a recovery jog in between the two. Potentially this will be a really good session but I was a bit rubbish this morning as my runnings been a bit disrupted lately and I'm generally feeling a bit bleargh, but I will most definitely be back. Onwards and upwards!
