What are your short and longer term triathlon goals? I want a 7 hour half iron distance next year, followed by a 12 hour (ish) full iron the year after

Short term - finish watching today's one on BBC2 whilst slurping coffee. Long term - Read all race reports of sportists that will be competing in triathlons in the future.

Main goal for next year is to complete a half iron distance race. In terms of time, it's a step up from a marathon (at least half again as long), and my first goal in a marathon is always just to finish - only seems sensible to think along the same lines for the half iron tri.
In terms of time, it's likely that a realistic goal time will depend a lot on the course and the conditions, but I'd like to see how close I can get to 5 hours for the half iron distance.

I want to compete in a tri before I hit 40 in march 2014 .... If my current back injury allows the bala.middle distance 2013 has my name on it!

For me it's all about the personal bests. So far I have PB'ed at every triathlon I have ever entered so I hope to continue that into next year.

I've got my first duathlon on Saturday, then hoping to do a sprint tri next year. Preferably something pool based, as the idea of open water swimming scares me stupid, especially on the back of watching the tri yesterday!

My short term plan is Bala Middle distance next year, just to finish is enough although I do strongly suspect it will be in last postion. Long term, I hope to hold Lucy's hand round a full IM

Thanks for that - I'll be interested to see how their dates look for 2013.

It's a short swim but a longer bike ride than the standard sprint tri which is good if you're unsure of your swim.

of course, such things are against the rules; Rule #42 // A bike race shall never be preceded with a swim and/or followed by a run. If it’s preceded with a swim and/or followed by a run, it is not called a bike race, it is called duathlon or a triathlon. Neither of which is a bike race. Also keep in mind that one should only swim in order to prevent drowning, and should only run if being chased. And even then, one should only run fast enough to prevent capture. www.velominati.com/the-rules/#42

TBH my main goal is to have completed an Olympic length triathlon before the end of 2013.
