When I first started running my main aim was to run under 50 minutes in a race, I have ran under this time once before in training, but for me it didn't really count as its not an officially measured course etc. After a very crap nights sleep worrying about if I could finally get a sub 50 and playing out in my own head how I would take the hills I headed off for the train. I briefly met up with some fellow Sportists (Jo, Pete and Dave) and a quick warm up with some of my running club people it was time to start. I knew I had to run 8 min/miles to get sub 50, but the first mile was pretty packed with everyone trying to avoid the lakes of water and also there is a big hill right towards the end of the mile. The garmin beeped at me and showed 8:20 so knew I had to push on to get that time back.. 2nd mile I done in 7:39, but it killed me, my heart rate was over 90%, but I was back on a 8 min/mile average. The rest of the race was just all about hanging on, so focused on one of my club mates who was about 50 meters in front and just paced off her.. Not sure of my official time (it's not chipped) but my garmin told me 49:34.. So I had done it.. Just!!! Pace splits Mile 1 - 8:20 Mile 2 - 7:39 Mile 3 - 7:56 Mile 4 - 7:54 Mile 5 - 8:05 Mile 6 - 7:53 last .2 - 7:07 Race Bling Finishing/Dying Garmin stats - connect.garmin.com/activity/235524117

Good running Neil. The busy start and hill is enough to put up with, it was like the tide had come in as well though Well done on your sub 50.
